At First Rock we believe that the greatest decision that any person can ever make is to join God’s family through being born again. Being born again takes place when a person understands and responds to 3 essential steps:

1. Recognizing that they have not kept all of God’s commands and are therefore a sinner in need of someone to take away their sins. This point in a person’s life where they feel convicted about bad things they have done or continue to do and desire to stop and turn from it is the first step in being born again.(Romans 3:23) 2. The second step is believing that Jesus is God’s son, that He died on a cross for the sins of the world, was buried in a tomb and after three days rose from the dead. Jesus overcame death and the grave because he never sinned. The result of sin is death (Romans 6:23) 3. The third and final step to being born again is to call on Jesus to save you from your sins (all the wrongs in your life). Romans 10: 9&10 says “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” He says “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Romans 10:13. Confessing Jesus as your Savior and Lord and letting others know of your decision is the last step in being born again.

Why is church membership important?

Once a person is born again the first step of obedience is to be baptized. Joining a local church body such as our church family at First Rock follows these two vitally important steps (Being born again and water baptism). We believe aligning with a church through membership is important because you are showing you agree with the teachings of that body. It also shows your desire to support the mission of that body in your local community and globally through prayer, serving, growing and giving. Church membership at First Rock allows you to be apart of important decisions we make as a body since only church members are allowed to vote in our quarterly business meetings. Whether you choose to become a member or just desire to worship with us we see you as family and are glad to have you as a part of our church.

How do I become a member of First Rock Fellowship?

There are three ways to join First Rock:A person may join through water baptism only after being born again. Some have chosen to join through baptism because they were baptized as an infant or were not fully immersed in an earlier experience in their life. Still others just want to rededicate themselves to the Lord and desire to do so through being baptized again into the membership of the church.
A person may also join by way of “church letter”. This is a letter sent from a church you were formerly a member of that says you have been born again and baptized. The final way we receive people into church membership is by “statement”. This option is used when a church letter is not available but a person states that they have been born again and baptized. Any of these three options can be done by simply coming forward at the end of a service during the “time of invitation”. This time is marked by the pastor inviting people to come forward who would like to respond to the message or working of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Some come to be born again or make an earlier decision public. Others come to pray or for prayer and ministry. This is also the time in the service we invite anyone who would like to join our church as a member to come forward. Please come even if the invitation does not specifically mention joining the church.

What should I expect if I come forward to join the church?

The pastor or another volunteer will pray with you or your family and ask you to fill out a simple decision card that clarifies the decision you are making and how you would like to join the church. When the “invitation time” is over the pastor will invite you to stand with him and let the church know of your desire to become a member. Every person becomes a member by way of church vote which is more like an exciting approval and welcome.
