God’s Word says that sin separates us from God because He is a Holy God completely perfect.
Sin means to miss the mark and is actually a term used in archery. God has given us His law and commandments which are impossible for any of us to obey completely in our own strength. When any of us do what God has said not to do we miss the mark, perfection and this is called sin. We believe as God’s Word tells us in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death. In other words we are all dead spiritually and not just because of our own sins, we were born sinners. Sin began with Adam and Eve and has been passed down throughout man kind. No one has to teach an infant to be selfish or throw a temper-tantrum we come out of the womb fallen, separated from God and in need of a Savior. Scripture references on this subject:
- Romans 3:23 (all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God)
- Hebrews 9:22 (without the shedding of blood there can be not forgiveness of sin)
- Romans 6:23 (the wages of sin is death)
- Isaiah 59:2 (sin separates us from God)
